EWS COVID-19 Information and Resources

What a difference a day makes as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the globe. EWS has been working busily to keep up, and to provide support to parents via resources and networking opportunities. In accordance with the most recent mandate, EWS will be closed through April 28.

We continue to monitor updates closely from the Oregon Health Authority, and extended closures are determined and issued by the State of Oregon. It also continues to be our policy to follow the 4J School District’s practices.

Distance learning will go into effect on Monday, April 6. A team of teachers is currently experimenting with tools that will allow us to develop and distribute video lessons, organize classroom activities such as distributing assignments and giving feedback on them, and hold video meetings. The teaching staff is committed to staying present in the daily life of families. Teachers will need time to develop these new tools, which they will all be working on in the following two weeks. We are doing all that we can to launch a new kind of learning platform given the current mandates by the State of Oregon and the CDC.

After this week, we will begin our scheduled Spring Break from March 23-April 6. This will allow for needed time away, rest and preparation for the rest of the school year. During this time we will be sending EWS Weekly Greetings so that our school community can continue to keep in touch. These all-school emails will be sent on Thursdays. You can also expect a weekly greeting from your class teacher.

We want to share with you some community resources which could be helpful for families during the next few weeks.

May we all take this time to care for one another and to embrace the social mission of Waldorf education anew.

In the heart of each decision lies human striving, grace, flexibility, and the chance to discover how to be in community when a call for isolation and distance dominates.

All-school emails will continue to be a good way for us to share EWS updates and responses to events. Administrative staff will be checking voicemail and email regularly through the school closure. Please feel free to reach out should the need arise. If you have any questions, please refer to our Faculty and Staff directory here.

We send our care and gratitude to each of you and miss the  energy of our school. We are in unusual times and need to come together as a community. It is important for us to reach out to those in need, continue to check in with family and friends and practice kindness daily. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support your family. We will get through this together— our hearts are with you even if we cannot physically be with you.
