Early Childhood Teacher

The Eugene Waldorf School is looking for a full time lead teacher for our early childhood program for the 2021-2022 school year. We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic, imaginative, nurturing person to
join our group of early childhood teachers who oversee the holding of 4-6 year-old children; a creative teacher who speaks to the children in imaginative pictures, who has a connection with nature and who is not averse to rainy weather! We need a teacher who can establish a healthy rhythm with warmth and joy, someone who is happy to participate in our rich festival life.

Applicants are required to have a Waldorf teacher training certificate. We value the additional training of candidates with a bachelor’s degree. Lead Grades Teacher

For the 2022-23 academic year, the Eugene Waldorf School is currently seeking an experienced class/lead teacher for the Grades. Established in 1980, our school has deep roots in the local community and provides a comprehensive Waldorf education to students in preschool through eighth grade. Our four-acre campus is nestled in the southwest hills of Eugene, Oregon which is a vibrant, artistic, and eco-conscious community. Eugene is located at the south end of the Willamette Valley with a rich cultural life and offers an abundance of natural beauty and outdoor recreation in the Pacific Northwest.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, a Waldorf teacher training certificate, and experience teaching in a Waldorf school. They need to be able to pass a fingerprinted background check. In addition to lesson planning and classroom teaching, lead teachers are expected to meet and work with current and prospective parents, hold parent-teacher conferences, and prepare student reports. To support healthy collaboration in the school, each teacher works with a mentor, attends weekly faculty meetings, assists with school events, and joins in committee work. In order to strengthen our school’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work, as well as implementing trauma sensitive school practices, attending ongoing training/professional development sessions is required. Our school currently offers the following specialty subjects: Spanish, Handwork, Movement, Strings, Guitar, Woodwork, and Gardening.

Pedagogical Support Teacher

The Eugene Waldorf School is hiring for a Pedagogical Support Teacher for the 2021-22 school year. This position will be working with the second, third, fourth/fifth, and seventh grade classes. The Pedagogical Support position will be a part of each class on a rotating basis and will form a relationship with the teacher and students in each group. The position will  become familiar with the workings of each class. This position would be a Lead Substitute teacher in these grades should the need arise. When fulfilling Lead Substitute teacher responsibilities, the position would be required to work full time. This is a salaried part-time position starting immediately and working through the last day of school (June 17, 2022).

The Pedagogical Support position duties include and are not limited to:

  • Support for the class teacher during main lesson and/or specialty classes
  • Openness to being mentored and to participating in regular check-ins with class teachers 
  • Assist with task management, especially for students that require more one-on-one assistance
  • Ongoing student progress monitoring and communication with teacher
  • A variety of incidental tasks to support the needs of the teacher and class
  • Assist with project-based learning activities
  • Assist with neighborhood walks and field trips
  • Assist the class teacher in supporting the social and emotional health of the class
  • If necessary, assist students that are experiencing self-regulatory challenges out of the classroom for further assistance—including and not limited to: restorative chats and/or time in the R & R (Reflection and Refocus) room
  • Support conflict resolution between students
  • Support diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and trauma sensitive school practices 
  • Lead Substitute Teacher duties will require preparing lessons with the support of the class teacher/mentor and leading students through class activities. More details regarding substitution duties will be provided upon hire.

Education and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Waldorf Education
  • BA preferred
  • Lower School classroom experience
  • Complete CPR and First Aid training
  • Complete COVID-19 Operational Plan training
  • Complete Mandatory Reporter Training
  • Attend professional development workshops/trainings provided to EWS staff
  • Must be compliant with Oregon Vaccination Requirement for school employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors. They must be compliant on their first day of employment. 
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprinted background check through the Central Background Registry

Work Setting

  • School classrooms (indoor and outdoor), playground, field trips, and neighborhood walks

Other qualifications

  • Knowledge of neurodiversity
  • Familiarity and/or interest in conflict resolution
  • Interest in cooking, field trips, outdoor based curriculum
